Vinous 91 (2020)

The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Deep and layered, with tons of complexity, the 2020 is a compelling, overachieving wine that delivers the goods, and then some. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, rose petal, mint and incense linger on the substantial finish. This transparent, elegant Langhe Nebbiolo has a ton to offer. I loved it.

Francesco Versio worked as cellarman, and then oenologist, at Bruno Giacosa’s since June 2011, Francesco Versio decided to start producing his own wines from the family’s vines held in Neive: two small parcels located in San Cristoforo and Currà vineyards. First vintage of his Barbaresco was the 2013, with a tiny production of 2,600 bottles. The vinification style is traditional, and wine is aged in a Stockinger botte grande. Since 2017, he acquired a vineyeard in Dogliani to produce a typical wine from Dolcetto grapes.
