Sourced from vines that are 86 years old (the Grenache and Mourvèdre) and 124 years old (the Shiraz), the 2015 Avignon Grenache Mourvedre Shiraz should be given the same respect as Kaesler's famous old-vine Shirazes. This year's blend of 46% Grenache, 37% Mourvèdre and 17% Shiraz spent a year in four-year-old barriques prior to being bottled. It offers largely red fruit, like currants, cherries and raspberries, then layers in hints of savory herbs, like sage and bay leaf. It's medium to full-bodied, with a round, ample feel in the mouth and silky tannins on the long finish.
